Middleton Place Hounds was recognized as a member of the MFHA in January 1977. The primary hunt country consists of land in Charleston and Dorchester Counties, containing over 7,000 acres on Middleton Place and Millbrook Plantation. Hunting days are Sunday and Tuesday and Thursday as announced. Middleton Place Hounds is primarily a drag hunt and maintains a kennel of approximately fifty foxhounds, including crossbred and English foxhounds. The hounds are treated with love and kindness by our kennelman and huntsman. Visitors are welcome and should contact the Secretary or any Joint Master.
Middleton Place Hounds social side is traditionally active, with breakfasts or tailgate parties after many of the hunts and sometimes a stirrup cup beforehand. The social committee arranges parties and events during the hunt season. Hunter Trials, Hunter Pace events, shows and various other competitions are held throughout the season. MPH travels to other plantations throughout South Carolina and has joint meets with other regional hunts. Foxhunting is a traditional activity and a colorful pageant enjoyed by participants and spectators alike. Middleton Place Hounds strives to maintain the traditions of foxhunting by providing good sport and companionship.
